Race to the Stones 2022 · 9 July 2022 to 10 July 2022 ·

SARA is the largest multi-disciplinary search and rescue organisation in the UK. It operates inshore lifeboats on the tidal Severn, Wye and Usk, and provides inland water and land search & rescue throughout the Severn Area, 24x7x365 with over 150 qualified all-volunteer crew from 6 Stations.

Story

On 9th & 10th July 2022 I will be running my first ever ultra-marathon, Race to the Stones (RttS). It's 100km along the Ridgeway, Britain's oldest path, finishing at Avebury stone circle. I'll be undertaking this challenge with two amazing friends, as the exclusive team "RUB CLUB" (Run + Pub) and it'll certainly be a challenge as my furthest distance to date is 17 miles, so there's plenty of training to do!

I have decided to raise money for SARA as their Sharpness Station is very local to me and a charity I've been involved with for a number of years now as a supporter. They cover the Severn Estuary and River Severn north of the M4 bridges to just upstream of Gloucester, dealing with treacherous waters with fast-flowing currents, many sandbanks and mudbanks, and a tidal range of more than 10 metres. They're available on-call 24/7/365 in all weathers to save lives in local waters.

I'm not running using a charity place so any donations are a bonus and would be greatly appreciated by SARA to put towards replacement safety kit, boat engine upgrades, station maintenance and more.

Thank you

Hayley x
