Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Holly-Aobh has wanted to be a vet since she was 3 years old! Probably younger...but she wasn't able to tell us until she was 3 and met a vet at the nursery school fete who offered to bandage her toy dog's leg. Her dream recently came true when she secured a place at Glasgow Uni for Veterinary Medicine!!!

She has many people to thank who helped her along this very long - and hard - journey and one of the major players on this journey was FBRC. The charity has entrusted her with the care, health and well-being of the rabbits in their rescue, many of whom have, sadly, been neglected when they arrive at the centre.  Rabbits are Britain's 3rd most popular pet but are no.1 on the list with regard to neglect, mostly, we believe, due to their inability to 'voice' their pain or suffering. We have been volunteering with Fairly Beloved Rabbit Care for 2 years now - I was only meant to be the driver on that first day but quickly recognised the fantastic job which the charity was doing and signed-up too! Since then, Holly-Aobh has cleaned up mountains of bunny poop; given medicine to very poorly buns and even allowed her Mum to practice her bunny face-painting on her, for fundraising/awareness days! :D We have fostered over 30 bunnies: nursing a few through serious illnesses; staying up all night to feed and give medicine; giving them love and space to run and binky - and we've seen most of them hop off happily to loving new homes. Homes with (at least) the minimum size and quality of enclosures and knowledge of the correct diet. Homes where they'll be given a new, happy and safe life.

Fairly Beloved offer a second chance to the never-ending stream of unloved, unwanted and often maltreated rabbits: the management team, foster carers and care assistants make up a small army of volunteers who provide a safe environment for them enabling them to be restored to full health and ensuring that all vaccinations are carried out before they leave the rescue.  The vet bills are substantial and as the charity grows, so do the bills! FBRC also offer a free advice service and are happy to help to anyone who contacts them.

Holly-Aobh and I will be tackling our first 'Tyrolean traverse' (over the crashing waves) which is required to reach the base of the stack and with 4/5 pitches of climbing above, upon reaching the other side, it should be an exciting and very long day - and our biggest climbing challenge so far!

So...

Option 1 - Please click the button and give the charity a few wee pounds

OR

Option 2 - Do your own sea stack climb to raise money! ;)

If you've read this far - well done! And thank you for considering to improve the welfare of theses fascinating and much underrated pets. Please see below for more photos of our challenge and some of the beautiful pet rabbits that we've helped.

Thank you,

Hazel & Holly-Aobh
