Cheltenham to Kyiv Challenge · 5 March 2023

Children affected by the Ukraine crisis urgently need help. Their lives are being turned upside down by the escalating crisis and unfolding devastation. As bombs continue to fall, nowhere is safe. Children are at risk.

Story

The boys of Hazelwell successfully completed the distance from Cheltenham to Kyiv in their attempt to raise money for the children affected by the war in Ukraine. Over the course of two weeks, the boys in house ran through rain, sleet and snow, at all times of the day, to ensure that we completed 1516 miles to the Ukrainian capital.

Hazelwell is a second home to students from around the globe, including boys from both Russian and Ukraine, as well as those with parents in the British military. We are not immune to the conflict, and we have a number of boys whose lives have been affected by the war and its subsequent political fall-out. Despite the challenges that these boys face, they have stable families and a network of support at College that allow them to thrive. Simply put, they are the lucky ones. We would love your support in helping those less fortunate.

We selected World Vision as our chosen charity because its central aim is to help protect and inspire the world’s most vulnerable children. Their integrated approach means that they do provide the vital essentials these families need to survive: water, healthcare and warm clothing etc…. But they also go beyond these necessities, working within communities to provide education and offer psychosocial support. The World Vision team working for the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal are based both in Ukraine and a number of neighbouring countries, and have already done some remarkable things since the conflict began just over a year ago.

Thank you for your generosity.
