Hearing Dogs for Deaf People trains dogs to alert deaf people to important and life-saving sounds such as the smoke alarm, alarm clock, intruder alarms and baby monitors. These amazing dogs also help deaf people to leave loneliness behind by providing love, companionship and emotional support.

Story

There are some Christmas gifts that just keep on giving – for months, even years after Christmas is over.

Just before Christmas last year three deaf children, Sarah, Klara and Joe, received a gift of a hearing dog and, one year on, their lives continue to be transformed.

One child, Klara, had never slept in her own bed – she was scared to be alone in the silence and darkness. Extreme tiredness just compounded her frustration at home and school and she found it difficult to concentrate. Just before Christmas 2012, at the age of eight, Klara took hearing dog Jasper home.

“The best Christmas present I could ever get,” she said.

Very soon Klara began to sleep in her own bedroom. As mum, Michele explains, “Jasper has made a huge difference to Klara – but also to us as a family.”

Please watch this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89OJK21VCek - to find out more about Klara and Jasper’s story.

This year our Christmas appeal, let’s hear it for deaf children, is raising funds to help match ten more deaf children with a hearing dog in 2014.

Could you help us significantly improve the life prospects of more deaf children like Klara?
