The Heart 2 Heart Appeal will allow us to provide a permanent, 24/7 emergency primary angioplasty service to treat heart attacks. Heart disease is the biggest killer of both men and women and primary angioplasty is by far the most successful treatment for heart attacks. Not only does it double the patient’s chances of survival and reduce the risk of a stroke following treatment, it also reduces the risk of long term complications.

 

This appeal is desperately important for the residents of Surrey, East Berkshire and North Hampshire as the nearest centres to Frimley offering a 24/7 emergency primary angioplasty are St George’s Hospital, London or Southampton Hospital.  In order to save lives we started offering a 24/7 emergency primary angioplasty service at Frimley at the beginning of this year from a hired mobile cardiac catheter lab. This is exceedingly expensive to hire and we can only operate this service out of a mobile unit for the next 12 months - hence the need for the appeal. The new centre will also enable Frimley to undertake a ground breaking Heart Research Programme and provide the Trust with a future-proof building ready for further expansion over the coming years.
