Story

Hendrix, from Countesthorpe, was five months when doctors at Leicester’s Glenfield Hospital discovered he had been born with defects to his aorta and that he needed to have his mitral valve replaced.

He underwent major heart surgery and had specialist Ecmo treatment, which oxygenates blood outside the body.

Just a few weeks later he had to have a second operation.

Hendrix beat all the odds to recover and celebrate his first birthday in April.

Parents Jem Norton and Ross Kirk, used the occasion to thank the hundreds of well-wishers who have supported them through the darkest days when Hendrix was first taken ill.

Earlier this year his little sister Dixie Frances was born.

Jem and Ross always knew Hendrix would have to have further surgery and it was brought forward because of the state of health.

At first the surgery appeared to have gone well but then a post on his Facebook told how his heart was struggling and was then heavily relying on medication to keep him going. His kidneys then began to fail.

Hendrix passed away on Monday 27th October 2014.

#heart4hendrix is about getting people all over the country to show support and donate small or large to Leicester Charity Heart Link.
