Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In July 2016 Mum was diagnosed with an extremely rare, incurable lung condition - bronchiolitis obliterans. Her consultant at The Royal Brompton Hospital told us "of all the lung diseases there are, this is one you don't want." There was nothing they could do. Over the next 18 months Mum's health gradually deteriorated until she was reliant on oxygen 24 hours a day. As her lung function deteriorated further the consultant said her lungs were working so hard just to breathe it was as if she was running a marathon every day. That one comment sowed a seed in my mind... could I run a marathon? I quickly put that silly idea out of my head! However it continued to niggle at me so I decided to sign up for a half marathon instead.
Over the last year The Princess Alice Hospice have provided amazing support for our family. Mum was admitted as an in-patient on a number of occasions and was extremely well supported by the Community Team whose knowledge and expertise, love and care, enabled her to spend her final days in her own home.
Mum died on 5th November 2018. She is my inspiration - she battled on every day, struggling to breathe and aching all over. Me running 13.1 miles is nothing compared to what she faced. Who knows... I might even enjoy it!!!
Please give generously to encourage me with my training and support the work of The Princess Alice Hospice.
