Scottish Half Marathon · 18 September 2022 ·

We offer in-school creative writing workshops, working closely with school partners and volunteer mentors from the local community. The goal is to re-engage disaffected and disadvantaged children through writing projects all while fostering aspiration, building self-confidence and self-esteem.

Story

Hello everyone! I'm Heather, the new Volunteer Coordinator at the Super Power Agency. We produce workshops and creative programmes to get young people excited about writing, build confidence and provide opportunities.

I'm lucky to have benefitted from the safeguarding of creativity in Scotland, from free university education to the incredible writing mentors who encouraged me along the way. I care to make Scotland a place that proudly supports young people from a young age to have self-esteem, mentorship and creative aspirations.

In a little over 2 months I will be running my first Half Marathon for The Super Power Agency. To date the most I've ran is 5K, and I somewhat spontaneously agreed to get involved. With drive, a good pair of running shoes, and the support of my community - I keep telling myself - I will complete it!

I was inspired to sign-up by one of our volunteers who has previously ran the event: Jan. She's effervescent in the classroom working with our young people and now I can see she takes on life with equal gusto! I'm so pleased to be meeting the challenge of my first big run with Jan. We'll be joined by Claire Heffernan, my co-worker and wonderful Project Manager at The Super Power Agency.

If you'd like to support in running for a cause we all love, I'd welcome your generosity in giving a small donation :)

A little more about The Super Power Agency: we don’t receive any government funding and rely 100% on donations! To date, The Super Power Agency has worked with more than 3,000 students from 17 Scottish schools since 2018. Your financial help has run more than 50 workshops and published 18 books, created by children who now call themselves authors.
