Too many people live on the edge of coping. They never open up their prospects of a better life. It’s wrong. That’s why we’re here. We help people experiencing isolation, poverty and disadvantage to build better lives. With enough hope people can take control and turn their lives around.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As many of you know I am going to lose my hair as a result of chemotherapy. I'd like to use the opportunity to do something for others so I've decided to have my hair cut before it falls out. I'm donating my hair to make wigs for children and I'd like all of my friends to sponsor me to have my hair cut and raise money for Grapevine, a local charity that does great work and is reliant on charitable donations. Being a small local charity it does not get large donations but does important work.

Have a look at their website for details about what they do.

"When was the last time you saw someone with a learning disability working, eating in a restaurant or helping a neighbour? Probably not recently.

That's because society generally leaves them out. That's a problem for people with learning disabilities because they then lead unfulfilled lives. It's bad for society because we're all better off when everyone makes a contribution. And people with learning disabilities can make a big contribution.

Grapevine helps people to use their skills and talents and finds places where their contribution is needed. That way we can build real independence. That way we can  protect against isolation and other people's indifference.

Grapevine works with people and their families to get what they need to deal with change. And we work with them in a particular way - we stand by them, we don't take over and we stick with them for the long-term".

I'd be really pleased if you could make a small donation and I'll send you the photographic proof that I've had my head shaved.
