Heather's Ovacome Appeal · 4 February 2018

Ovacome is the national UK ovarian cancer charity focused on providing support to anyone affected by ovarian cancer. We are a strong community working together with the aim of reducing isolation, sharing information, promoting knowledge and supporting anyone affected by the disease.

Story

Hi I'm Heather Clark. I was diagnosed with incurable ovarian cancer on 1 February 2017 and I'm currently undergoing chemotherapy. I was born with thalidomide related impairments but I’ve overcome obstacles and challenges, enjoying a successful career working in television for ITV Calendar.

I am hugely grateful for all the support I have received from Ovacome - a charity founded by women with ovarian cancer. I am hosting a coffee morning in March which is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and Heather’s Ball in September which are being held to raise funds for Ovacome.

It is my mission to make members of the public and the medical profession more aware of the symptoms of ovarian cancer. Often referred to as the 'silent killer' ovarian cancer is the sixth most common cancer in women in the UK. There are too many misdiagnoses. One of the main symptoms is bloating and women are often mistakenly diagnosed with IBS. There is a misconception that ovarian cancer can be detected through the routine cervical smear. It cannot!

Please help me to raise funds for the vital work carried out by Ovacome by making a donation. Thank you!
