Welcome to the Plymouth Climbs Kilimanjaro 2022 campaign! These incredible students are taking on the challenge of a lifetime all whilst helping in the fight against meningitis and septicaemia.

Story

Hello everyone! In August 2021 I will be climbing Kilimanjaro in aid of Meningitis Research Foundation. Kilimanjaro is the highest single free-standing mountain in the world, measuring in at 5,895 metres above sea level. All donations made will be supporting Meningitis Research Foundation in getting a step closer to freeing the world of meningitis and septicaemia.

Across all age groups Meningitis is the world's 6th largest infectious disease killer, affecting more than 5 million people a year around the globe. Sadly 1 in 10 die as a result of meningitis, and 2 in 10 are left with a serious impairment. MRF are an incredible charity that aim to improve Mengitis survival rates and provide patients with a better quality of life and reduced disability.

MRF aim to achieve their vision through funding vital research, running awareness campaigns, training health care professionals and providing support and information to patients and families. One of their campaigns led to 70,000 additional meningitis vaccines being administered, for which they won a Third Sector award. Additionally, an extra 114,300 children in malawi clinics have been triaged using their system, taking the total number up to more than 500,00.

However, meningitis isn't just an issue in developing countries. In fact, student populations have the 2nd highest risk of contracting the disease worldwide, and therefore this is an issue close to my heart. This is why I'm raising money to support MRF, and those suffering with meningitis and septicaemia worldwide. Any contributions via the 'donate' button will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
