In 2010 three Sexual Health workers from Newcastle went with the footbal charity Lionsraw to Durban, South Africa to work with young people and volunteers on sexual health.
In June 2014 we will once again join the 500 people strong Lionsraw Legacy Tour Team to the World Cup in Brazil - but this time we are BIGGER AND BETTER!
7 Sexual Health and youth workers are volunteering two weeks of our time - and 18 months of planning - to join Lionsraw to:
1.
Deliver sexual health, relationship and self-esteem education with young people in Curitiba, Brazil2.
Provide positive activities to improve physical and emotional wellbeing for individuals involved in sex work or who are vulnerable to sexual exploitation CuritibaFor many people living in the poorer parts of Curitiba the World Cup will probably just pass them by, or they may experience exploitation for many different reasons while being exposed to some horrendous criminal activity and abuse.
We are hoping to give people some lasting, positive and fun memories while supporting them to build new skills to enable them to build confidence, raise their self esteem, feel valued, respected as well as build resilience and other transferable skills and knowledge.
In our day jobs we work for Teenage Kicks, SHINE and MESMAC, Newcastle United Foundation and Streetwise.
