Story
Hi guys,
I can't believe how quickly it has come round but it's the Great North Run in 2 weeks-September 20, and for reasons I no longer understand I decided to take part! It's 13.1 miles and I'm raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. I am hoping you guys can help me with my fund raising by donating to the CF Trust through this JustGiving page. I am aiming to run the course within 2.5 hours (you all know I like a challenge!) and raise £350 to help with research and support for CF sufferers.
A little bit of info about CF:
Cystic Fibrosis affects over 8,000 people in the UK. Over two million people in the UK carry the faulty gene that causes CF - around 1 in 25 of the population.
It affects the internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system, by clogging them with thick sticky mucus. This makes it hard to breathe and digest food.
Treatment of Cystic Fibrosis is as follows:
Physiotherapy - to help clear the lungs of mucus, which attracts infection
Exercise - beneficial as a form of physiotherapy and for general health
Medication - the different inhaled and intravenous drugs taken to clear mucus and fight infections
Nutrition - enzyme tablets to help digest food and dietetic information
Other aspects of CF such as transplants, CF related diabetes, and fertility.
Currently there is no cure and although life expectancy is improving only half of CF sufferers are expected to live over 35 years.
Any donations, small or large would be gratefully received. Thanks to all of you for taking your time to read my page.
