Helen's Jersey to France swim

Jersey to France solo swim · 1 July 2021
It's been a tough year or so hasn't it. December 2020 saw me offered a long distance swim opportunity just when I needed motivation to improve my wellbeing. I took it. But within three weeks we unexpectedly went back into lockdown. I headed back into my black hole. I didn't swim at all from January through to end of March 2021, didn't even dip my toes. All I remember about that time is that it was constantly cold, icy and dark and I barely left my bedroom which is also my office. Life, such as it was, revolved around work and managing the girls. Travel to Jersey for the swim in July seemed highly unlikely.
Well, here we are. In July. Tally (as crew) and I leave for Jersey next week, both fully vaccinated thankfully. On 26 April, when the pools finally re-opened, I could barely manage 1km. In two weeks time I will attempt to swim somewhere between 25-29kms in the sea between Jersey and France, with the dreaded mauve stinger and lions mane jellies. I'm really not sure I can make it.
I'm swimming to raise funds for Niemann-Pick UK. I'm swimming for my two young adults affected by NPC. I'm also swimming for my own physical and mental wellbeing more than ever before.
Please support NPUK. By supporting NPUK you support my girls and others living with this horrible rare disease.
