My big brother Tom died on February 10th, after a very short time with cancer. He is incredibly missed by his wife and children, our mum and dad, and me, not to mention the huge number of friends he made in his full and happy life.

At St Michael's Hospice in Harrogate he was cared for by the most kind and understanding staff, who ensured that his last days were dignified, painless and spent with his loved ones by his side.

Since then I have wanted to say thank you to St Michael's, and also to find a way to celebrate Tom's life and focus on a positive challenge.

On September 10th I will set off on my bike from Thorpe Hall, Peterborough, where Tom was born in 1968. Over three days and with changing shifts of good friends, I will cycle to the hospice, Crimple House, where Tom died, and on to Follifoot Cricket Club, where he spent some of his happiest times.
