Medics Against Violence is a Scottish charity run by clinicians. We've all seen too many people injured as a result of violence and our aim is to prevent violence before it happens through award winning schools projects, our domestic abuse training initiatives and hospital based support programmes

Story

At medical school in Glasgow, I couldn’t see how I could fit in with MAV. What relevance was posh-sounding privileged me going to have to people in the grip of violence and drugs?

In 2018, just before I started working at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh’s Emergency Department, I heard about the Navigator Programme (part of MAV). This amazing specially trained team connect with our patients- those who’ve attended through drugs, alcohol and violence- and show them in a pragmatic, non-judgmental way that it is possible to break that cycle. They do what I never felt I could, but they need funds to do so.

That is why I’ll be Recycling (2) on 21st May- from Glasgow Royal’s ED, along the canal, to Edinburgh. 55 miles, on someone else’s bike (because my bike isn’t one you’d take on a tow path). Please support me!

Medics against Violence is a small Scottish charity trying to do amazing things. We aim to tackle violence in Scotland in all its forms because we've all seen far too much of it. We work closely with the Scottish Violence Reduction Unit and other amazing partners because the one thing we are sure of it that we will only achieve good outcomes if we work together. We run MAV Schools, an education programme for young people, Ask Support Care, a domestic abuse training initiative and we help to run Navigator a hospital based support programme.
