My darling Mum, Pauline Palmer, is still with us in body, but not in mind. She lives on in all the stories and the memories that we share about her.
She has lived an amazing life. Her Guiding name was Wren - as she explained it, a short bird with a very loud voice - which is a pretty accurate description of my Mum.
She spent her life in service - as a Guider and then a Guider. She was a primary school teacher, and loved teaching and kids. She was a crafty genius, able to turn her hand to everything creative. She was something that always looked out for those around her. She was the life and soul of our Parish, singing in the choir, bellringer, doing the church registers. She taught piano and recorder to children, sang in many semi-professional choirs, installed a love of music in us.
She sailed with Dad on tall ships, lived on a barge, travelled, loved meeting people and sent hundreds of Christmas cards around the world.
Pauline was bossy and loud and had no problem speaking her mind. She loved us, was proud of us. Drove us crazy with forwarding emails and long rambling phone calls. She was partial to a cup, or a gallon, of tea.
I'm walking for her, for her memories, for my memories.
I'm walking for love.
