Story

I'm running 13.1 miles to help The Lily Foundation beat mitochondrial disease in loving memory of Eilidh Richards 17th August  - September 28th 2019. Every day in the UK a child like Eilidh is born with this genetic condition that has no treatment or cure.

Eilidh was born to adoring parents Louise and Joe. They had no idea of the journey they would embark upon during Eilidh’s short life.  Eilidh had early difficulties maintaining her blood sugars which then spiralled into a midnight medical flight from Edinburgh to London. It was here that Eilidh fought to live and make memories with her Mummy and Daddy (and I had the joy of becoming her God-mother). The lives of Eilidh’s family were set upon a rollercoaster of hope and despair, until they received the worst possible news; that Eilidh’s struggles were caused by Mitochondrial Disease. The disease means that the cells of the body can not make enough energy to survive. This effects vital organs and can lead to organ failure.

Eilidh lived her short life with more courage and strength than most people will muster  in a lifetime. She was surrounded by love and a family that always looked for light on the darkest of days.

When I think of Eilidh and her family’s strength,  I know these miles will be possible. And if I see a rainbow….I’ll know for sure Eilidh is beside  me.

The Lily foundation is dedicated to funding vital research and supporting those affected. I want to help them and need your help too! Please donate what you can as every penny helps and will give hope.Thank you!
