Story
I started volunteering with CARAS last year and have seen first-hand the difference their work makes to refugees and asylum seekers - particularly unaccompanied children who come to the UK scared and alone.
CARAS helps asylum seekers and refugees of all ages to flourish in the local community, become more independent and build social networks. On Saturdays, the youth club that I volunteer with provides a safe and welcoming space for child asylum seekers, providing the kids with English language classes, a safe space to play games and learn new things with people from their own culture and others, support through the asylum process and help to access all services so they feel more settled and welcome.
It's a fantastic charity, so I've decided to raise some awareness of their work - and hopefully some cash too - through my attempt to do a half ironman in August. It's in the Cotswolds (no hills! Hurrah!), and I'll be doing a 1.9k swim, 90k bike and 21k run. Back to back. Ouch.
You can read more about CARAS here (incl my volunteer story!): http://caras.org.uk and about the Cotswold Classic here: https://www.113events.com/cotswold-classic/
Thanks!
