Story
Last year, food banks in the Trussell Trust network provided more than 1.6 million emergency food parcels to people in crisis. More than half a million of these went to children. Who knows how many it could be this year.
I will be raising money for the Trussell Trust who do truly marvellous work in our communities to provide families who need it with the basics that many of us, myself included, take for granted.
Imagine knowing you are not able to feed your children. Imagine knowing they will be hungry when they go to bed. It's so awful it hurts to think that this is what life looks like for many.
I will be running the following distances over a period of 7 days; 5km, 10km, 13.1 miles (half marathon), 26.2 miles (full marathon), 50km (32 miles), 50 miles and if I get to it, 100 miles. That is a total of 230 miles over 7 days.
I know it will hurt. I know it will test me beyond anything I have ever done before. In fact, I can't imagine right now how much it will hurt. But then I can't imagine having to send my children to bed or to school knowing they are hungry.
It’s not right that people can’t afford the basics. With your help, we can help end the need for food banks. As a nation, we expect no one should be left hungry or destitute. Illness, disability, family breakdown or the loss of a job can happen to any of us and some of us have come closer to this than ever before this year.
