100 Miles for Leo 💙

This October, I’ve signed up to walk 100 miles to raise money for the National Autistic Society — a challenge that means so much more to me than simply reaching a distance.

As many of you know, my son Leo is autistic. He is the most amazing little boy. His heart is huge, and his intelligence constantly blows my mind. Sadly, because Leo is non-verbal, his intelligence is often underestimated and he is sometimes misunderstood.

Before having Leo and opening my world up to autism, I was honestly unaware — and probably quite ignorant — of how much autism can affect everyday life. Autism isn’t simply about being quirky, antisocial or “naughty”. Autistic people can face challenges multiple times a day, every single day, many of which other people simply don’t see.

Leo has taught me to see the world very differently, and I want to use this challenge to support the National Autistic Society, raise awareness and hopefully help people understand autism a little better.

I know 100 miles might not seem like a huge challenge to some people, but for me, it really is. Between working, caring for Leo and looking after his little brother Ollie, sometimes it can be difficult to even leave the house. But I’m determined to do it — one mile at a time.
