Sumatra Jungle Challenge · 4 September 2015

PACT Animal Sanctuary has been giving animals second chances since 1995, with an aim to rescue, rehabilitate, release and re-home neglected, injured, and abandoned animals, including wildlife, providing them with the care and support they need to regain their health, dignity, and well-being.

Story

I'm an 18 year old who loves an adventure and being challenged. I have always preferred being outdoors; looking after family pets and generally getting my hands dirty.

Despite being lucky enough to travel to many countries before, I have never ventured to Indonesia, let alone set foot into a jungle. This trek will push me into using my reserves as the intense humidity, mountainous descents and river crossings become a strong reality.

Whilst trekking in the Gunung Leuser Jungle for 6 days; I will learn to forage for my own food, build my own shelter and importantly take a great deal of knowledge from this area especially about the orangutang conservation. Finally each trekking day includes 5-6 hours of walking with all our necessary kit.

I have only this past year, completed my Gold Duke of Edinburgh award which was challenging enough. In particular the weather was absolutely awful. (Rain, Hail and High speed winds).
This award is how I have come to volunteer at PACT for the past 4 years. As a result it has given me great exposure to a range of animals, both wild and domesticated. It has also highlighted the realities of what the human race can put animals through.

Whether its outright neglect or just a change in lifestyle or circumstances I believe that these animals deserve the very best chance we can give them for a bright future in a new, loving home.

I am a strong believer when people pull together we can achieve great things. So please donate generously as honestly, I can't really believe I'm doing this challenge. Especially as I'm absolutely terrified of snakes!
