Oxford Half Marathon 2020 for Macmillan Cancer Support

Oxford Half Marathon 2021 · 17 October 2021 ·
TL;DR
In August 2017, I lost one of the most important people in my life, my grandma, to cancer. On 11th October 2020, I will be running the Oxford Half Marathon in loving memory of her, and fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support. Macmillan provides physical, financial and emotional support to those fighting cancer, helping them live life as fully as they can. I really appreciate you taking the time to read my story, and for any donations you're able to make!
My story
It's really hard to put into words how it feels to lose someone so close to you. It's been 3 years since I lost my beautiful grandma. She held me the day I was born, and looked after me every day since. She plaited my hair every morning before school, and supported me through every assembly and music concert and dance show I ever performed in. She brought me up.
Only recently did I visit her old flat again. While looking through her things, I found a few dusty notebooks. Inside, she had kept diaries for me, daily accounts from raising me. My firsts, my likes and dislikes, all the exciting things I'd done that day. I never knew she kept those diaries - my mum didn't even know. She was such a loving and caring person, and I'm forever grateful for everything she's done for me.
Throughout her life, my grandma was made to endure things that no one ever should. Despite all of life's struggles, she was resilient and strong. Even when she was diagnosed with cancer, she stayed positive and smiled every day, despite the pain she must've been in. I can't describe how painful it is to watch someone you love battle a terminal illness. She's truly my inspiration and I owe everything I am to my grandma. I hope that through the Oxford Half Marathon, I can feel closer to her and, in some way, thank her for everything she's done for me.
Thank you in advance for all your love and support x
