Story
Life is a gift and it offers us the privilege, opportunity and responsibility to give something back.
I'll happily run the 26.2 miles with everything I have; in return I am kindly asking for a donation to my just giving page.
Last year, the marathon was in memory of my Uncle Doug, this year I'm also running for HRH's mum, Janet Harrow.
Dementia is a group of symptoms. It is caused by different diseases that damage the brain. The symptoms get worse over time and include:
- memory loss
- confusion and needing help with daily tasks
- problems with language and understanding
- changes in behaviour.
Dementia is progressive, which means symptoms may be relatively mild at first, but they get worse over time. Dementia is not a natural part of aging, it is caused when a disease damages nerve cells in the brain. Nerve cells carry messages between different parts of the brain, and to other parts of the body. As more nerve cells are damaged, the brain becomes less able to work properly.
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
