I am aiming to raise £5000 to name a Guide Dog puppy in memory of Elizabeth Roddie, Liz.
I first met Liz in 2005, we were introduced to each other by a lady who was the Area Fund Raising Manager for Guide Dogs. She brought us together because we were both passionate about raising funds for the charity. I was a new Guide Dog Owner and Liz was a Puppy Walker with a lot of experience. Together we started a new fundraising branch, in Somerton, Liz was the secretary and I was the treasurer. For many years it was just the two of us, with a team of people who were happy to help when they could, for any event  or collection we might have. Over time, more people joined the branch and helped regularly.  For a small branch we did very well, Liz and I soon became close friends.
Liz took on the role of raising 25 Guide Dog puppies, including two that I named and sponsored, this was extra special for Liz, as she had helped me raise the money to pay for the initial training of those dogs. Liz was also a registered boarder for Guide Dogs and was the speaker coordinator for the South West region. She was a familiar figure in Somerton and everyone wanted to talk to her and meet the latest puppy she had.
It was with great sadness that I heard Liz had passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on 16th April. She will be greatly missed by many people, not just her family and friends. She was an inspirational person, who worked selflessly to help change the lives of so many people, she will always be remembered for the work she did. RIP Liz, in the knowledge you did so much to change the lives of so many.
