London Marathon 2021 · 3 October 2021 ·

We can't wait to get back to cheering our team on the streets of London in October 2021. The Virtual London Marathon will most definitely go down in history but we look forward to the 26.2 miles we know and love

Story

On 29th January 2021 our beautiful daughter Summer was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Summer had been feeling poorly for sometime but despite GP visits it was at her Opticians appointment that abnormalities showed something was seriously wrong. We took Summer to A&E where she had a CT scan confirming every parents worst nightmare. Summer had a brain tumour measuring 5cm. Everything happened really fast once diagnosed, Summer was blue-lighted to Kings in London where she underwent an 11+ hour operation to remove the tumour. Summers recovery in HDU was horrific with 36 hours of vomiting post surgery, severe head & neck pain and her vision was very blurred but after a week of waiting post surgery we received the best news, the tumour was benign. The medical staff at Kings, Lion Ward were truly amazing in helping Summer to get back on her feet and well enough to come home to recuperate. Summers recovery will take time but every week we know Summer is definitely improving and her health is definitely moving in the right direction - little steps.

Trying to process what Summer has been through and still going through has been unbelievably heartbreaking as a family but we are forever grateful to everyone who literally saved her life - Susan Young at Vision Express Maidstone, Pembury A&E & Paediatrics, the Ambulance crew who blue-lighted Summer to Kings, Cristina Bliel (Kings Neurosurgeon Paediatrics), Consultants. Doctors, Nurses, Physiotherapists,  Ophthalmologist.  Plus a huge heartfelt thank you to all our friends, family and Invicta Grammar School - we are still feeling totally overwhelmed at the incredible love, support and messages that kept us going when life felt so very frightening - we love you all.

I never thought I would be running a marathon for my daughter but when those miles get tough digging deep will not be too difficult. My heart literally broke watching Summer go through this and I will run this marathon for my little hero, Summer - I love you ❤️ xxxxxxxx
