South Coast Mighty Hike

South Coast Mighty Hike 2018 · 7 July 2018 ·
Hello friends & welcome to my JustGiving page.
Last year, as many of you will know, I challenged myself to take part in a sponsored 5K charity run for Whale & Dolphin Conservation. It was the first time I'd ever pushed myself to fundraise for a charity and I managed to raise over £300 for the International End Captivity Campaign; a grass-routes project which will forever be so very close to my heart. I cannot tell you how much I appreciated each and every one of those donations and it made me want to push myself harder to give a little something back to the people who are courageously working so very hard to do some good in this world.
This year, I have decided to take on a much bigger challenge for a charity that have personally touched mine and my families lives in such an unforgettable way. On the 7th July (2018), I will be taking myself back down to the South Coast (my home from home) where I will be embarking on a 26-mile hike across the South Downs and along the Seven Sisters County Park coastline in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support & I would be so grateful for your generosity in supporting me along the way.
In 2016, I lost my Step-Dad, David, to lung cancer. I won't go into the finer details but as you can imagine it was one of the hardest things I've ever experienced in my life so far. Cancer took so much away from us as a family and we all witnessed first hand what a cruel and debilitating disease it can be. David was a one-of-a-kind sort-of man. He was a loving husband to my Mum & together they created a home and a life that inhabited warmth, love and happiness for both my sister & I. He was an inspiring father to my sister, Hollie, who carries his spirit with her no matter where she goes or what she is doing and grows more and more like him every day. He was a friend to more people than I know how to count and he touched many people's lives in many different ways which became apparent at his funeral by the sheer amount who turned up to say their goodbyes. I never heard him say a bad word about anybody and he was never too busy to help out those in need. As a family, we had adventures all over the world, we laughed, we argued, we lived a full-life. HE lived a full-life. And life ... doesn't stop at cancer.
Macmillan's ambition is to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer and to inspire millions of others to do the same. They are there for those suffering physically and for those suffering emotionally. They are there to help with financial difficulties, to encourage people to talk about how they are feeling and what they are thinking, to give answers to the most pressing questions and to make a cup of tea when it's needed. They are a shoulder, an ear, a voice... a friend. They encourage life to continue when a person is faced with the fear of death and most importantly they ensure that NOBODY faces cancer alone. They are real-life angels and I will forever be in their debt for the comfort and for the answers they gave to my Step-Dad throughout his diagnosis and during those last few days.
