Marie Curie provides care and support for people living with any terminal illness across the UK. Our nurses work night and day in people’s homes and our hospices offer specialist care. We also support people emotionally, provide practical information, and match them with trained volunteers.

Story

Firstly thanks for visiting my Just Giving page.

im doing this for my Mam and for terminally ill people and this is why.......

My Mam, my best friend and my world, was the most outgoing, bubbly woman you could ever meet! Even at 72 she was still very active and always helping and caring for people who could not care for them selves, she was truley an amazing lady.

My Mam began to have stomach issues which lead to hospital visits and the outcome was, as we were advised her "Gall Bladder", we were told after numerous scans there was nothing "sinister" to worry about so with huge relief Me and my family were overwhelmed to say the least.

The day the operation came it was cancelled, later we came to find my Mam had cancer of no primary source, 9 days later it was terminal and 6 weeks later my Mam passed peacefully at home.

Literally because my Mam got very poorly very quickly  it took a lot of time to not only take in what was happening but to make sure my Mam was out of pain and comfortable.

The last 2 weeks off my Mams illness was a heart breaking and life changing experience, my Mam became bed ridden and quickly couldn't do very much for herself.

I am trying to raise as much as possible for Marie Curie because quite simply me and my family could not of coped physically with the demands on my Mams medical needs but also the emotional support me and my brothers sister, niece and nephews got is something that could never really be repaid.

The final week of my Mam's illness was when the support helped massively, My Mam slept for 6 days as her pain was managed by a machine which administered drugs automatically to keep her out of pain and dis comfort.

For those 5 nights we as a family had the help from Marie Curie, the carers knew when my Mam needed anything even though she was asleep, they knew exactly what my Mam needed in her final hours to help her though and because of that, those 6 days as a family we could sleep ( or at least try ) and to make sense of what was going on even though that is something we are still struggling with now.

There are thousands of people dying because of this horrible disease and there thousands of people who can't and don't get the care they need like my Mam did because at times the funds are not available.

Please help me raise as much as possible for this amazing charity and let's make people who need help, care and support during and at the end of their life.

Cancer can strike at anytime and I believe you the person reading this would want your family or friend to get the care they need from Marie Curie.

Thank You 💜
