Success after Stroke is an active and motivated self-help support group where the members are helped by dedicated volunteers and therapists in their efforts for rehabilitation, independence and confidence.

Story

In a moment of madness I have decided to join my daughter, Edwina, in a huge challenge. I am going to climb Mount Kenya, the second highest mountain in Africa.    No turning back now - training has begun: gym membership bought and boots are being walked in every day...

We will be raising money for a fantastic charity - Success After Stroke.  The charity was formed in 1999 after the wife of a friend had a stroke.  When she was discharged from hospital there was little or no help available in the community to support her.  The charity began with five members and one physiotherapist.  It now has five physios, two speech and language therapists, one cognitive behavioural therapist, twenty-two volunteers and a membership of over sixty people.  As well as therapies, the members can swim, ride, sail, do Nordic walking, carriage driving and art and pottery classes.  SAS provides a rehabilitation service to help survivors of stroke achieve an improvement in their quality of life. There are plans for the concept of SAS to be franchised throughout the UK.

I do hope you will support me in this challenge so I can raise much needed funds for SAS.  Many thanks in advance!

Henrietta (Henny-Penny)
