Story

Lynch Syndrome is a genetic defect that alters your genes and makes you more susceptible to develop cancer at an early age.

I was made aware that I had this gene at the age of 16 after it was confirmed as the cause of the colon cancer that my Dad had at 23. Alongside my dad two out of my three aunties on his side of the family were unfortunately also diagnosed with bowel cancer. Fortunately all 3 of them had full recoveries post op and are now cancer free.

It's not all success stories though as sadly in the summer of 2017 my cousin Niklas passed away from a brain tumour which was stage 4 at diagnosis. Before he passed away the doctors revealed the cause of this tumour was the Lynch syndrome that he had inherited. He underwent both standard and experimental treatments throughout is 18 month battle with cancer but sadly nothing could cure the inoperable tumour on his brain. He left us far too early at the age of 23.

In his memory, on July 31st I have decided to take part in a Triathlon that incorporates the physical toll of a half ironman whilst scaling the many peaks of Snowdonia National Park. A triathlon is always something I have wanted to do and I feel I have finally found a charity that would really benefit from all of your donations.

The Charity, Lynch Syndrome UK, was founded and is governed by Lynch Syndrome survivors and their families, with the aim to support families affected by the condition & spread awareness about signs, screening & treatments.
