Mikey is seven years old and loves all things dinosaur-related. He was diagnosed with stage 4 high-risk neuroblastoma and in 2020 completed the bivalent vaccine clinical trial at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Story

Richard's Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo - 1st to 3rd May 2019:

Mikey is a playful and loving little toddler, who likes nothing more than to spend hours playing with his toy farm animals while singing Old Macdonald Had a Farm." He loves cuddling up to watch Peppa Pig and playing with his baby brother, Bobby. But in December 2017, just 20 months old his parents noticed a lump in his tummy. After a trip to A&E, he was diagnosed condition as stage 4 high-risk neuroblastoma, with further tests revealing that the tumour had grown from above his right kidney to across almost his entire abdomen. It had heavily infiltrated his bone marrow. While Mikey has so far responded well to his treatment, immunotherapy spells the end of his frontline treatment available on the NHS, and his battle is far from over. Almost 50% of children with high-risk neuroblastoma relapse and when it does come back less than 1 in 10 survive. So Mikey and his family are fundraising in case they need to access treatment or clinical trials not available through the NHS.

The race:

So, as someone who loves their cars and driving, and as a boy growing up,  my favourite film was Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo, I decided that we could put together a 'Herbie' themed race.

Urgent Update...

In preparation for the race and Herbie's first outing for some time, Herbie caught fire!!!  The engine has completely burnt out and the insurers say that Herbie is likely to be a write-off!!!

Due to this very sad situation, we have had a slight change of plans and will look to take a piece of Herbie down to the French Riviera, so that at least part of Herbie gets to Monte Carlo...

Photo's to follow.  The only upside, is that my 4 year old son, Eric, put his fireman's dressing up costume to help the fire fighters who turned up to make sure that the car fire was completely put out and that the car was made safe.  I would also like to thank a neighbour of ours, Barry, who tackled the fire and stopped an explosion in our driveway, which would have ended up setting fire to other cars, and possibly the house!

We are still going ahead with the event and my wheels have been upgraded to a classic Mercedes, every cloud...

With more time for preparation and hopefully a re-built/new Herbie, our plan will be to re-arrange an event, and we may look to put together a Herbie themed race/re-birth here in the UK, with many more classic car owners, watch this space...

Our aim remains to raise as much money as possible for this great cause.

Our rally begins next week, leaving on Wednesday 1st May and arriving on Friday 3rd May in Monte Carlo...

Thank you so much for your support.

Best wishes from Richard and the team at Charles Park.  +44(0)7765 905149
