This year the Birmingham Liver Unit runs the Great Birmingham Run in tribute of our patients, donors and donor families, staff and charities who have shown their continued confidence in us and massive support for liver transplantation over the years. Incidentally we also mark 40 years since the first liver transplant in the UK.

Surgeons, physicians, nurses and all other allied health professionals are joining this run. We also tribute our run to Ann Fox Foundation. Thanks to donations raised by the Fox Family, we pioneered the NAPLES project; using new technology of testing and preserving livers, this initiative has enabled >70 complex transplants since 2018.  We run in celebration of the successes and achievements and to raise funds for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Charity for many such initiatives aiming at patient benefit.
