Heughligans Supporting Youth Theatre Arts Scotland
Youth Theatre Arts Scotland (YTAS) transforms lives through youth theatre by connecting, supporting and inspiring young artists, audiences and leaders.
The charity is based in Edinburgh but works throughout Scotland and Sam Heughan has been their proud patron since 2013. He says:
"Youth Theatre is for everyone; it’s about a community, it’s about being supported by your peer group. You learn skills – not just acting but all the other sides needed for working in TV, film and the theatre industry. I’d like to instil the belief that if you join a youth theatre, it’s a gateway to greater career prospects. I know if we get young people involved in the sector, it’s going to pay dividends in the future."
As part of their work YTAS deliver exciting youth theatre projects such as the Chrysalis festival which takes place at the Traverse Theatre – on the very stage where Sam started his professional career!
Chrysalis is a platform for ambitious performance by young theatre-makers. It showcases emerging talent, sparks critical debate and challenges perceptions of youth theatre.
In 2017 all donations from the Heughligans will go towards the cost of staging this year’s Chrysalis festival, ensuring that even more young people can benefit from a unique youth theatre experience.
"Chrysalis is a fabulous opportunity giving youth theatre companies a supportive, enriching platform to expand their horizons at every level."(2016 performing group)
