The Three Peaks Challenge · 9 June 2018

Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity. Our nurses, called Admiral Nurses – who we continually support and develop – provide life-changing care for families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.

Story

On 9th and 10th June 2018, a 12 strong team from Hewitsons Solicitors will be undertaking the National Three Peaks Challenge. This trek, of the United Kingdom’s three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales, will test their stamina and strength as they pit themselves against one of the most gruelling charity challenges in the country – 23 miles of walking in 24 hours with over 3,000m of ascent.

Starting with Ben Nevis in Scotland the team will hike the tough 1,345m to the summit. Being the UK’s tallest mountain they will need to contest with the weather, dim light, rough ground and possibly even a fair bit of snow and ice. All before being driven through the night whilst hoping to get some sleep ahead of commencing the next peak.

Starting at approximately 4am, the second towering mountain for the brave team to conquer will be Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England. Working together they will need to scale the 978m to the top. Infamous for the boulder-strewn terrain Scafell Pike will put our climbers to the test, and unlike Ben Nevis or Snowdon this mountain does not give our team an easier time coming down, requiring an equal amount of hiking on the descent.

Finally our team will head on to the final peak, Snowdon in Wales. This 1,085m mountain towers over the Welsh landscape and marks the final summit of the challenge. Enduring the kilometre of rough stone, fog, and loose ground the team will need to move quickly to ascend before the 24 hours is up.

Hiking such a significant distance (with about 1/3 in the dark) is a big challenge and your support through sponsorship and otherwise will be invaluable in helping us to complete the Challenge successfully.

The Charity

The team are committing to this challenge in aid of Dementia UK, which amongst other things, funds their “Admiral Nurses" initiative. Admiral Nurses work alongside dementia sufferers and their families giving much needed one to one support, expert guidance and practical solutions. Some of those taking part in the Challenge have relatives suffering from dementia and we are all committed to helping this worthwhile cause.

The Team

Our team of 12 are eager to take on this challenge and look forward to receiving your support, not just in completing the hike but also for the much needed funds which help Dementia UK and it’s terrific work helping those living with dementia.
