Highfield TTC International Waendel Walk 2022 · 14 May 2022 ·

As the community grew regular events were organised and celebrated in local schools. Wellingborough District Hindu Association (WDHA) was started by a group of community volunteers in early 1970s. Help us with whatever small donation you can, from little as £1. Thank you.

Story

Raj and Agna Bakrania family of 5 including daughter (6 yrs old) who has Angelman Syndrome will be taking part in the Waendel walk on 14th May 2022 to raise funding for Angelman UK. We are going to be walking alongside other members of the Highfield Table Tennis club (Wellingborough) to raise funds for Angelman UK.

Our aim is to walk at least 5 km with our daughter who has never walked this distance before. Being told just a few years ago that she may not walk, this is a big step forward.

Angelman Syndrome is a rare condition with no cure. It is a neurologically impairing condition that affects one in 15,000. Our daughter who is affected, is severely intellectually disabled and will need life long care - she will need to be monitored constantly, doesn't sleep much, has no concept of danger, can't speak, walks with an ataxic gate, suffers from high anxiety to name a few effects of the condition. But she will still light up any room she enters, gives the most amazing smile and brightens our lives.

Angelman UK is a UK based charity run by volunteers. They support individuals and their families affected by this rare condition, aiming to help with the life changing situation. They also aim to educate and raise awareness about Angelman Syndrome.
