Story
During my year in office as High Sheriff of Staffordshire, I have chosen to raise money and support for the High Sheriff 's Fund for Staffordshire.
The High Sheriff's Fund distributes grants of up to £500 to grass roots causes and community groups across the county of Staffordshire. £500 can make a transformative difference to small projects at a local level, and this funding is sometimes the only way these groups can continue their vital work within the community.
I feel passionate about supporting small, local groups who strive to make a difference to the lives of others in our county. As one of my other passions is walking, I have chosen to traverse the newly re-created 88 mile pilgrimage route 'The Two Saints Way' - which stretches from Chester to Lichfield Cathedral - to raise as much funds as I can.
When I heard about the newly revived path of the Two Saints Way, I felt this was a great opportunity to explore different areas right across the heart of the county and also to help raise funds for local communities. I love the idea of there being a continuum of walkers, or pilgrims, walking through the county, making connections with history, with each other and with the various communities encountered along the way. Through the villages, hamlets, churches, pubs, museums, youth centres, businesses, visitor attractions and more, we will encounter a rich tapestry of Staffordshire culture, past and present. This is a fantastic opportunity for young and old to learn about the county, its landscape and history, and to make new connections with one another.
