The purpose of the hike is to raise funds for the Extended School Day Programme in Merom Hagalil via the UJIA. This programme ensures that the children have at least one nutritious meal in the day – sometimes their only one – and are provided with extra educational support and enrichment activities. It also means that as well as keeping these children in a caring environment and providing a nutritious meal, the programme helps them begin to broaden their horizons, enrich their environment, increase independence and build self-confidence.
