Story

Hi my name is Hilary, wife, mum to 3 kids, 3 dogs and 3 cats! I love running and so I’m taking on the London marathon 2019 and supporting a fantastic charity called deafblind uk.
So I’m asking you , please ,please dig deep and put your hands in your pockets for a superb cause and help to make a huge different to the life of a dead/blind person in the uk.

Deafblind UK (DBUK) is a national charity supporting people with combined sight and hearing loss to live the lives they want.

Many people with deafblindness can feel isolated, lonely and embarrassed about their condition. The condition falls broadly into 2 types; Congenital deafblindness where a person has sight or hearing impairment since birth caused by premature birth or infection and Acquired deafblindness which is where a person becomes deafblind through an accident, trauma or through ageing. Whatever the reasons, being deafblind can leave people detached from their friends, family and communities and in many cases feeling very alone. Imagine only seeing shadows or hearing muffled music, Imagine not being able to see your partner or your children’s faces, or hear their voices? Imagine being afraid because your two main senses are disappearing, with little chance of them ever coming back?

Did you know there are nearly 400,000    people living in the uk with dual sensory loss ? Every £ you donate helps them to get closer to helping those that really need it .
I have no idea what the world would be like for a deaf/blind person. Unable to see the trees or hear the birds. Unable to communicate with the world around you. This charity works with people to make the world a less frightening place, offering help and support to those born deaf/blind as well as those facing sensory impairment. Making the world a kinder and less scary place.

Did you know....
£15 could pay for an hour and a half of phone support for those who need it most.

£30 could pay for a day of companionship for a deafblind person.

£60 could train a volunteer in deafblind communication.
Thank you for reading!
