8 February 2008 ....... A special person has inspired me to take on this challenge - an immense personal one for me. I am not young, nor fit .... but I am overweight and determined to complete the Monster Challenge for her and Maggies!
I will probably be the last one to crawl over the finishing line at 7 am on the Sunday morning - but this "wrinkly/old dear" will do it .......30 mile cycle, followed by a huge 43 mile hike - I am aiming to do the lot in the 24 hours over the 3/4th May 2008!
I am doing this as an individual - my team will be all the folks who support me till I cross the finishing line (and put up with my moans and groans on the way) and those who help me meet that financial target to raise funds for Maggie's.
JOIN THE HILDA TEAM and dig deep by donating through this site - It is simple, fast and totally secure and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
****UPDATE as at 18th April 2008*****
I know we have exceeded the target, but do not let this deter you from giving! The more for Maggies the better.
To date as part of my training for this event, this "woman with a mission" has walked in excess of 450 miles; cycled over 500 miles; swam nearly 2000 lengths of the pool. Just a shadow of my old overweight self! These aching feet will do the 73 miles.
**** 5th May 2008 ******
I may be over 2 stones lighter; have very sore feet; knees that are knackered, but I did complete the 73 miles in just under 21.5 hours - arriving in Inverness at 4.25 am on Sunday.
My heartfelt thanks to all of you who sent me their best wishes and donated to Maggies through this site or in person. Special thanks to Blane (my support team); Jenny, Hamish and John (a team in their own right) who kept me going for the last 20 miles through the night when we were all VERY weary; to the doctor and first aiders who dealt with the totally exhausted Hilda at the end of the challenge.
To those who have still have an offering to make, please do so before 4 July or come along to Rozelle Park in Ayr (Holy Fair) and support me in making sure we hit that £2500 for Maggies.
