The coronavirus crisis is such a difficult and unprecedented time for our whole global family, but we are determined to ensure no one is beyond the reach of the support they need to survive and thrive.

Story

WELCOME TO SUMMER IN SURREY!

Many of you know us Hippos; the Zimhippo for his cutting edge fashion (!) and both of us for our swimming and kayaking adventures. Well, our activities have been well and truly curtailed this year, with most swims and indeed sporting events cancelled. With it, the funds usually donated to charities have drastically fallen, so we decided that while on furlough we would do something about it.

In the name of keeping active, we purchased a PADDLEBOARD 10 days ago, and while my husband was taking in the sites of the Wey River, and learning the ropes, he came up with a plan to paddle board and kayak the length of the Wey Navigation together - 20.5 miles in a day. Once I got up off the floor, I agreed and so here we are, getting ready our next challenge, in aid of the CAFOD Coronavirus appeal!

*Update* - our team has grown to include Jason Gaines-Burril who will be joining us all the way on his paddleboard, and Sue, his partner will be supporting us as land crew!

We have elected to do this on the 24TH of June - we will be starting in Godalming and finishing at the end of the Navigation, which is at Shepperton Lock. Join us on the water, or walk alongside us during the day, or donate from the comfort of your armchairs - any support will be much appreciated!

So why CAFOD?

CAFOD is a catholic charity which supports projects on the ground, helping communities worldwide that are poverty stricken and already facing hunger and water shortages (such as Zimbabwe and Zambia), deal with the effects of the Coronavirus and climate change. They remind us that while it's easy to feel helpless during this coronavirus crisis, through the donations we provide, they can help ensure that no one is beyond the reach of the support they need to survive and thrive through the Coronavirus threat. There is also ongoing work to provide clean water, hand washing facilities and training to communities in need. Whatever you can afford to donate, your gift will make a significant difference to the crisis response, in all communities across the world, especially those already struggling.

Thank you for your support! We hope to see you soon!
