We are running 10km on Monday 7th May to raise money for Histio UK, a charity which raises funds to research the causes of Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH), a rare form of cancer.
Our colleague’s 3 year old daughter, Chloe, has been fighting LCH, since she was 4 months old. She received chemotherapy straight away but the disease proved very resistant and spread from her skin and skull to her liver, spleen, gut and bone marrow.
Just before her first birthday Chloe became seriously ill. To save her life she had to undergo intensive chemotherapy, spending 8 weeks in hospital, but this failed to get rid of the disease. Thanks to research, a drug was found which gave Chloe a chance - an experimental targeted inhibitor treatment which is now working to keep the LCH at bay. More research is needed to find a cure for LCH so that Chloe and others can be safe and disease free.
LCH is such a rare disease that there is little funding available to research its treatment or raise awareness and provide support for sufferers and their families. We want to help raise funds for Histio UK so that they can continue their vital work providing hope and support to families like Nick's who remain so positive despite facing such difficult circumstances.
