Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I’m not sure if it’s the goal-loving physio in me, or that my parents brought me up to think that anything is possible if you put your mind to, but somehow I seem to have got into the habit of signing up for things that I’m not entirely prepared for. Over the past few years, this has led to climbing Mt Kilimanjaro ( the highest 🏔 in Africa) 🏃🏻‍♀️ Edinburgh marathon, 🏊🏻‍♀️   more than 5 miles across a lake in the Lake District and moving to work in the Middle East 🇶🇦.

As I turn the ripe old age of 30 this year, it seems fitting to do something completely outrageous and that quite frankly tops the other challenges / scares me to death.

In October this year, I will be attempting to complete an 18 day climb to reach the summit of Mera Peak. At 6461m above sea level, it's the highest 'trekking' peak in Nepal. Trekking being an optimistic word - with phrases like 'ice axes',  'crampons'  and ‘ insurance policies covering evacuation over 6000m' being thrown around, it's safe to say sh*t got real, and it's not going to be a walk in the park.

Realistically this trek is going to push me to my limits, and made all the more fun as I had major surgery on my knee just 5 months before departure. However, the man leading the trip is likely to be pushed even further.

Ed Jackson suffered a spinal injury that left him paralysed from the neck down after a freak accident and was told he would never walk again. A year on from his injury, he summited Snowdon. His road to recovery has been simply inspirational and has included setting up the group M2M (Millimetres to Mountains) which aims to raise money to build and fund a Spinal Injury Unit in Nepal.

Nepal is an incredibly beautiful country, one that I have been lucky enough to visit since living in the middle east. Labour is hard and mainly manual, and the countries poverty is plain to see.  As a physio, I know what a huge impact basic care and rehab can have on somebody who has sustained a life-altering injury, and am keen to help raise money to help improve the provisions in one of the world's poorest countries.

Here’s where I need a little help...

Through completing the climb I am aiming to raise in excess of £3000, a mountain in itself. This will go towards the £250,000 needed to achieve the goal of building a new spinal unit. So dearest friends, family, colleagues and Facebook lurkers, please dig deep and help me make a difference.

Any donation big or small would be gratefully appreciated.

Much love and thanks in advance,

Morgs
