St Barnabas House is a hospice based in Worthing which provides palliative care to adults with life-limiting illnesses and their families, both at the hospice and in the comfort of their own home.

Story

We have a team of 11 running in the Bupa London 10k in memory of Graham Nicholson.

Graham died of cancer aged 54 in December 2013 and spent his final days at St Barnabas Hospice, Worthing.

St Barnabas House looks after adults who are approaching the end of their lives. This end of life care is aimed at alleviating distressing symptoms associated with serious illness, as well as providing specialist emotional support for the families and carers throughout the illness and into bereavement. Typically, patients are in their last year, terminally ill or suffering from a life limiting disease. Their aim is to maintain the best possible quality of life and support independence.

The hospice is not part of the NHS, only a quarter of their funding is received from the NHS Sussex Community Trust and Coastal West Sussex Clinical Commissioning Group each year. Running the hospice costs over £5 million annually, so they do rely heavily on fundraising, charity events and donations.
