Story
Two’s Company gives visually impaired and disabled people in Bristol opportunities to come cycling on the back of a tandem. They tend to organise around 20 or so rides a year from Spring through to Autumn. More info here: http://www.lifecycleuk.org.uk/two-s-company
In order to help raise funds to ensure that rides can continue next year, and hopefully beyond, they are organising a charity abseil down one of the big old tobacco warehouses in Bristol (not the actual one in the picture, but the one over the river of which I’ve not yet got a picture, but i assure you it is very high). [in case you're interested info on the building we're abseiling down is on the English Heritage website here: http://list.english-heritage.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1202089 ]
I am now hoping that you can help me raise enough to smash the £200 sponsorship target. And having stood at the foot of one of the buildings yesterday can assure you this will be more of a challenge for me than I had considered when signing up!
Some comments from participants of Two's Company:
"The ride was excellent. The attitude of all the volunteers could not be faulted and for me especially, my front rider. What a lovely lady. so helpful, understanding, informative, interesting to talk to, a real diamond."
"The ride was fantastic, exhilarating, energising and great fun. I really really had such a brilliant evening, the best of the year. I enjoyed the companionship and it raised my confidence in relating to others."
“Twos Company is very important to me as it helps with my fitness levels and breathing which has been very badly affected due to my car crash. It also gives me a social life and has allowed me to make new friends and be accepted by sighted non disabled people which can be a rarity.”
Having been a front rider for the last couple of Summers I can attest to how much the opportunity for something as simple as to go on a bike ride is appreciated by all involved, particularly when they wouldn't have the opportunity otherwise.
I really hope you can help with the fundraising for this event.
Cheers,
Ben
