Story
I am going to be undertaking a traverse across the Cairngorms National Park in the depths of winter, hauling my gear on a pulk as part of a team of 9. The trek will be approximately 15-20km per day.
To prepare for this arduous trip, I spent four months running, swimming, climbing and hiking. Since October 2021, I swam almost 50 miles in the pool and hiked over 125km with my weighted backpack as well as doing the Couch to 5k running programme.
I've been updating my blog (www.nomadchapter.blog) fortnightly with my training journey. And the final countdown is on - I head to Inverness this week! The snow arrived shockingly late this season and so we are unlikely to be able to sleep in snow holes, though thankfully there is now enough snow to drag the pulks!
I chose to support The Ocean Cleanup because the non-profit has demonstrated that it has a REALLY compelling solution to remove an enormous chunk of the plastic pollution in the ocean, and I'm really passionate about supporting them.
The Ocean Cleanup does not "just" aim to remove 90% of all floating plastic pollution (which is clearly an amazing win for the planet)... they have also designed and are manufacturing a fleet of River Interceptors which will catch plastic pollution as it flows out of the most polluted rivers in the world.
My blog contains posts about the training and preparation for the trek and I've also got more information about The Ocean Cleanup too.
