Marie Curie is here for anyone with an illness they’re likely to die from, and those close to them. Whatever the illness, wherever you are, we’re with you to the end. We bring 75 years of experience and leading research to the care we give you at home, in our hospices and over the phone.

Story

I remember the huge impact Gramps had on my life, even when I was tiny. How we would both fall asleep in his armchair, how he would play board games with me for hours and hours, even teaching me how to play chess and giving me the chance to complete the rubix cube (even though I never could!),  how I would go and feed the chickens and sheep with him, collecting the eggs and feeding the Jacob sheep their favourite digestive biscuits!!

Almost 5 years ago Gramps was diagnosed with cancer, I remember leaving Nan and Gramps cottage after Mum told me. I was talking excitedly about becoming a Barrister and inviting them to my graduation, when I would be Called to the Bar of England and Wales. Gramps looked distant and said "You make sure you never give up on your dreams, make sure you become a Barrister"...he didn't accept my invite. He didn't know that I knew he was dying. I'll never forget those words.

I watched as he deteriorated and slowly drifted away. My Nan said that she didn't want me to remember him like that, I don't. During that year I remember the train journeys and one woman who I sat with, who told me that I should make sure I tell him everything I want to before he dies. I don't know why I confided in her, I didn't take that advice. I wish I had.

This is why this challenge is so important to me. I want help to provide care and support, not just to people like Gramps but to their families as well. For every £20.00 I raise, 1 hour of care can be given.

Please help me to raise as much as I can, to give care to as many people with illnesses as I can, for the longest time possible. Every penny and pound helps.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any donation you may make. I cant tell you how much it is appreciated.
