I'm running the London Landmarks Half Marathon this year to raise money for Sense. 

My little sister, Megan, was born with Salmonella Meningitis which ultimately affected her brain leaving her with brain damage as well as a range of other disabilities. Megan was born partially sighted, she has hydrocephalus which meant she had to have life saving brain surgery at just a few weeks old, she has learning difficulties along with many other medical problems. At the time Megan was born my older brother was only 4 and I was only 15 months old, this was a hugely traumatic and stressful time for my family, my parents had to carry on looking after my brother and I as well as learning how to look after Megan and understand and process all of the disabilities and illnesses she has. Which is where Sense stepped in... my parents were told by Megan's Neurologist to get in touch with Sense to see how can they could help. We got in touch and they helped enormously! It was Sense who worked with Megan to figure out what she could actually see, as at the time we knew she was partially sighted, but to what extent we was unsure of. They provided their knowledge and expertise to give my family advise and support in how to care for Megan. This is something Sense does for thousands of families not just mine. They are a charity that believes that no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, should be isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential.Their experts offer personalised support through their centres, holidays and short breaks, or in people’s own homes. They are here for everyone who needs them, for as long as they need them – providing early intervention for children, helping young people access education, and supporting the transition into adulthood and beyond.
