We are fighting to make a world where diabetes does no harm

Story

When I was in the U.S. last year, I went on a summer camp for kids with diabetes. One day the most inspiring person I have ever met came in and gave us a talk. Sebastien Sasseville told us his stories of climbing Mount Everest, competing in the Sahara desert race, and, most importantly, running 7200km across Canada. He ran for nine consecutive months, running on an average a marathon a day.

That he could do that at all is pretty amazing – but the fact that he, like me, has type 1 diabetes inspired me and I wanted to do something similar. I talked about it to my Dad - who also has type 1 diabetes - and we decided to cycle across England. Fortunately England isn’t quite as wide as Canada – so our journey will be about 400km from
Weston-super-Mare to Margate and should take us 6 or 7 days. If you want to see how we are getting on, we will post regular updates throughout our training and the ride itself.

I’ve chosen Diabetes UK as my charity because as well as doing life changing research they do many great things to support people with diabetes such as camps. The kids exchange tips and make firm friends who will be there for each other when the people around them don’t understand what it is like having diabetes.

By the way – you can check out Sebastien on his website at http://sebinspire.com/en/journey/running-east-west-across-canada-2014

Thank you for supporting me - any donation is greatly appreciated.
