Story
I will be cycling approximately 315 miles from London to Paris in June 2022 in the hope of raising as much money as I can for LUPUS UK as well as greater awareness and understanding for a disease that often goes undiagnosed.
Lupus is a systemic autoimmune disease that occurs when the body's immune system attacks its own tissues and organs. Inflammation caused by Lupus can affect many different body systems, including your joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart and lungs.
Unfortunately Lupus is not always easy to diagnose because it can be similar to other conditions. Without a diagnosis or treatment Lupus can lead to the irreversible damage of a number of major organs.
It takes on average 7 years for an individual with Lupus to receive a diagnosis followed by treatment. With greater awareness and understanding around this disease it is hoped the average length of time for a diagnosis can be reduced significantly in the near foreseeable future.
Personally, I have a very close connection to the effects of the disease as well as the work and efforts of LUPUS UK. All money raised from my Charity ride will certainly go a long way in helping and supporting LUPUS UK in their very important work.
Your contribution, however large or small will be most appreciated and will no doubt help me in my quest in completing this meaningful challenge.
My sincere thanks,
Holly
