Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running the London Marathon 2018 to raise money for the Hypersomnia Foundation.
I was diagnosed with Idiopathic Hypersomnia (IH) in 2015 after finding myself constantly tired and unable to stay awake. IH is a sleeping disorder which affects the way my brain processes sleep leaving me feeling constantly sleepy and constantly sleep deprived even after a good night's sleep.
I take medication every day which allows me to work but still suffer from the symptoms of sleep deprivation such as memory problems, brain fog and excessive sleepiness which makes leading a normal life sometimes really hard.
This year I challenged myself by not only signing up to run the marathon but actually getting in and I decided to use this to raise awareness of IH and to try and raise money for the Hypersomnia Foundation.
Little is known about IH, not a lot is known about what causes it or who gets is and why and there are very few medications available. I am lucky in that I am still able to work and lead a relatively normal life but it can be a debilitating illness causing some sufferers to lead a life where every day is a battle just to stay awake.
Any money donated via my JustGiving page will be used to help fund research worldwide to allow more clinical trials and develop treatment options and to allow doctors to find a reason or a cure behind this baffling disorder.
